赵善欢是农业昆虫学和昆虫毒理学研究者。华南农业大学校史资料记载其1939年回国，次年任教授，1980年当选中国科学院学部委员。他的研究覆盖水稻害虫、植物性杀虫物质和施药方法。与甘蔗直接相关的原始证据是1981年《甘蔗黄螟饲养方法的研究》：该文脚注明确记载，这项试验属于赵善欢主持的昆虫不育研究。论文作者为黄端平、刘秀琼，故项目主持与论文署名分别记录。Zhao Shanhuan researched agricultural entomology and insect toxicology. South China Agricultural University's historical records state that he returned to China in 1939, became a professor the following year, and was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. His research covered rice pests, insecticidal substances from plants, and application methods. Direct original evidence relating to sugarcane is the 1981 paper A Study of Rearing Methods for the Yellow Sugarcane Borer. Its footnote explicitly states that the experiment formed part of insect-sterility research directed by Zhao Shanhuan. The paper's authors were Huang Duanping and Liu Xiuqiong, so project leadership and publication authorship are recorded separately.
