蒲蛰龙把昆虫学研究与农业害虫防治结合起来。中山大学的生平资料记载，他在20世纪50年代初研究赤眼蜂防治甘蔗螟虫，并探索以较大寄主卵大量繁殖赤眼蜂。对甘蔗产业而言，关键贡献是把寄生蜂的利用从昆虫观察推进到可繁育、可投放的防治技术。本册采用校方明确标注的工作照，图中场景是鉴定水生甲虫标本。Pu Zhelong combined entomological research with agricultural pest control. Sun Yat-sen University's biographical material records his early-1950s work on using Trichogramma parasitoids against sugarcane borers and exploring their mass rearing in larger host eggs. For the sugarcane industry, the key contribution was to move parasitoid use from insect observation toward a control technique that could be propagated and deployed. This volume uses a working photograph explicitly identified by the university; the scene shows him identifying aquatic beetle specimens.
